Homecoming Time. The Citizens Academy was overwhelmed with registrations for its Public Salon last month. We received over 30 registrations from past November pilot participants (in-person and online), and two dozen registrations from community leaders who wanted to know more about us. Even though Mother Nature hit the city with a snow storm on February 21st, the Academy welcomed back 16 of its past participants and over a dozen new recruits, who braved the winter weather. What a treat it was to see those familiar faces come through the door.
While clutching their warm Bridgehead coffees, participants began conversations about what they loved about Ottawa and what to improve, and quickly dove into discussions about how future programs with Citizens Academy should work. What is the balance between institutional knowledge – Civics 101, we call it – and the working tools they need to be effective as volunteers and advocates? Want to know how to acquire immediately? Enjoy with all the casino spiele kostenlos ohne anmeldung book of ra suitable now. There is a lot of cash in addition to fun!
The answer was clear. Ottawa’s citizens need Civic Tools, such as how to engage with the City, and Civic Work, exchanging experiences in community work, practicing how to make your points in a public meeting, etc. Participants had a lot to say, and we are still digesting all the ideas generated. One thing’s for sure: these citizens are creative, enthusiastic and certainly having a big influence on the future of the Citizens Academy. Thank you, one and all.
